Car and MPV Drivers Course

This course is aimed at drivers of vehicles that are built or adapted to carry no more than eight passengers and is an extension of the successful Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS).

Some of the content is taken from MiDAS and the rest is specific to drivers of cars and MPVs.

Advanced Training Services can either train an in-house MiDAS Car and MPV Observer for you or we can arrange training courses for your drivers which covers topics such as:

• Defensive driving
• Legal responsibilities of drivers
• Passenger safety
• Passenger awareness
• Manual handling awareness
• Health and safety awareness
• Emergency procedures
• Personal safety for drivers

As with the MiDAS for minibus drivers programme there are additional elements that would be covered if the vehicle was an accessible MPV.  This would include:

• Safe use of passenger lifts or ramps
• Correct use of wheelchair tie-downs and passenger safety belts
• Added legal and good practice guidelines

Classroom based theory and practical sessions are followed by a multiple choice theory assessment and, for drivers of accessible vehicles, an assessment of their ability to use the specialist equipment safely.

There is usually an on-road observation of their driving, although that might be optional in some circumstances.
